After our adventure at Lands End, two of us made our way to The Riptide, way out in the very Outer Parkside neighborhood of San Francisco. This perfectly cozy, mermaid-y dive bar sits so close to Ocean Beach you can still smell the sea air upon entering this tucked away gem. The Riptide features live music, a friendly staff, gorgeous wood tables, amazing nautical/mer-folk decor and they never charge a cover. What’s not to love? We may have missed the live music but we thoroughly enjoyed our beers and nutty hot chocolates at this San Francisco treasure. Thank you Riptide. We will be back!

One Valentine’s day birthday is all it took to inspire six friends to paint the town red, white and gold. Armed with Cupid Valentino’s love pistol and a bunch of heart shaped balloons we found our way to the top of Bernal Hill determined to spread the love! Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
Balloons from Sparky’s Balloons: 115 Clement, San Francisco, CA 94118
Conveniently located as the bottom of Bernal Hill is the adorable, light filled Sandbox Bakery. We treated ourselves to some of their famous baked treats. Delicious blackberry scones and even warm heart shaped buns! Valentine pastry magic in Bernal Heights. Even if you don’t live in the neighborhood, it’s worth the trek to treat yourself!

In celebration of the first day of Spring we are taking you to the Menhir of Klobuky. This standing stone was erected during Celtic times in the tiny village of Klobuky in the Czech Republic. Legend has it that by placing your hands on the stone you are filled with positive, healing energy.
We spent an afternoon at Menhir painting the landscape with colorful ribbons. The vibrant neons and pastels swept thru the golden canvas of wheat fields. You can see the energy of Menhir in our dancing ribbon.
One crazy aunt and one sweetie pie, fun-loving niece spent an afternoon swinging on swings at San Francisco’s Huntington Park. They were not only having a fantastic time, but also showing off the newly bejeweled, sparkling soles of their shoes! Swing Swing! Bling Bling!
Go fly a kite! (or at least give it a try) That’s what we attempted to do on a recent excursion to California’s beautiful Point Reyes. We ambitiously packed our kites to fly them at what is usually a very windy locale. Turns out the day we showed up at Point Reyes was the least windy day of the year. After many hilariously failed attempts, we did finally get some flight time for our kites. Luckily, we had our hula hoops in tow to entertain us when the wind was letting us and and our kites down. From Drakes Beach all the way up to the top of the Point Reyes lighthouse, the killer views will have you falling in love with Northern California. Hope everyone is enjoying Memorial Day out under the blue skies wherever you are.

You are never too old to have a tea party with your best friend. My bestie and I were lucky enough to have tea for two in the lovely Aussie garden at Burnbank farm on a gorgeous summer afternoon. (Aussie summer that is.) We spent hours beforehand laughing and folding over a hundred perfect origami cubes to serve as tiny lanterns for our party. Cheers to good times with great friends! xoxo H+HH

Our bicoastal mer-folk band “SEAHORSES FOREVER” reunited in New York City for the Coney Island Mermaid Parade. We picked up four handsome sailors to join our crew of sirens. Come see the sea-freaks of Coney Island. xoxo H+HH
The sun was blazing when the Coney Island Mermaid Parade took off down Surf Avenue. The parade itself was a moving party of mermaids swimming among some wildly freakish sea creatures. A true under the sea carnival for the bold. Seahorses Forever was there to keep things glam! xoxo H+HH
After three hours of walking, waving, hula hooping, tossing candy, throwing glitter and blowing bubbles we finally make our way down the Coney Island boardwalk and back to the sea. The Seahorses Forever Reunion at the Mermaid Parade was nothing short of magical. Thank you to Coney Island and all of the organizers of the Mermaid Parade for a truly epic day. Until the next reunion, I got your tail! xoxo H+HH
As I walk the salt and pepper beach,
I must watch where I am going or I trip
in other peoples footprints.
Some are deeper than others,
some are just partials, a few toes,
the traces of a heel surrounded
by lighter, drier sand.
I imagine they might still be ours
from that day many months ago
when we ran screaming down the beach,
an array of patterned, silk scarves
streaming behind us, multi colored
sequined headbands tight across our foreheads.
I can still feel the light spray of the waterfall
from that day not so long ago
when we were nymphs skipping up
the mossy carpet of rocks,
scarves dipping lightly into water,
our blissful hands thrown to the air,
the spectacularly different shapes
of our half clothed bodies,
the smell of white ginger and fallen mango
mixing with water and earth.
It was raining peach rose petals
and every one of us was blooming.

Armed with our bejeweled flasks and a few handfuls of sparklers, we take on New York City’s Highline at dusk for a bit of glittery mischief. xoxo H+HH

The world’s coolest farmer goes by the name Rick Martin. He and his lovely wife Pam look after 7000 sheep on their Australian farm. Rick is hard working, quick witted and an absolute good time. Pam is his queen, who not only runs half the farm but is also an extraordinary milliner. They are both a delight and an inspiration. I spent a week with them exploring the farm, chasing kangaroos, having tea twice a day and trying on all of Pam’s marvelous hats with their gorgeous daughter and my dear friend Isobel. It was grand! Burnbank is a beautiful farm that I hope to return to many more times. xoxo H+HH

Happy Valentine’s Day to all the lovers out there! Today we are celebrating the love of our favorite girlfriends that we adore like sisters. Four of us spent a sunny day at San Francisco’s gorgeous Palace of Fine Arts. We made our own magic with a reflective show of sparkles made from giant bubbles and tiny sequins that played in the golden sunlight. It was an incredibly fun day. We hope you all are having a wonderful Valentine’s Day doing the things you love with the people you love! Love, love, love! xoxo H+HH
